Frequently Asked Questions
What is Sound Healing?
Sound Healing, specifically Integral Sound Healing, is an ancient practice whereby we use instruments of sound to trigger your body’s natural relaxation response. Healing sounds are created by playing crystal singing bowls, gongs, tingha bells, Tibetan bowls, and other instruments. Sound is used to heal and balance our lives, our energies, our chakras and invite us into a deeper sense of self.
How does it work?
As we move through our lives, the highs and lows as we know them, our system - our energy field - can become unbalanced. Using primarily quartz crystal singing bowls tuned to the frequency of the earth and chakras, your system is invited back into balance. Think of it like this: if you take two pendulum clocks swinging at their own rhythm and put them in a room together, soon they will sync to each other. Energy craves balance. The energy in your body will respond to the bowls and become more in sync with the vibration of the earth, our natural state of being. Additionally, the crystal in the bowls will invite syncing with the crystalline connective tissue in your body. And we know how deeply sound affects water - creating order and patterns of balance. In response to these prompts, you will feel more balanced, more centered, more relaxed.
Are there any side effects or contraindications?
There are no known side effect to sound healing! However, there are a few contraindications including pregnancy, pace makers/stents/shunts, sound-induced epilepsy, or severe mental health issues. While having one of these contra indicators does not preclude one from sound healing, please speak with your doctor or medical care provider prior to pursing a sound healing session.
What can I expect in a sound healing session with you?
Prior to your initial session, I will ask you to complete an intake form to get a little bit of information on what specifically you are desiring healing around. Upon arrival, we will sit and talk so I can get a clearer sense of where you are in the moment. We will get you comfortable with pillows and blankets either lying on a mat that is surrounded by the bowls, or in a recliner if that is more comfortable for you. I will offer you an eye pillow to help settle and reduce outside stimulation. An energy assessment will be done using a crystal pendulum or a bowl to see where your body is holding excess energy, or where it is most depleted. With some guided meditation, we will settle into the session with sounds being played for 30-45 minutes. Slowly you will be invited back into a grounded place, with some quiet reflection time and herbal tea if you so choose. We will then discuss some ways to support your system and any followup sessions. It had been found that starting with four sessions over 6-8 weeks is highly effective in restoring your system to balance, although one session is all you need to start!
What do I wear or bring with me?
I encourage you to come in comfy clothing! Whatever it is that feels soft and gentle on your body. You will be asked to remove your shoes in the space and for our session, so please wear socks if you do not like to be barefoot or if your feet tend to be cold. You will be covered with a blanket if you so choose.
Where do you practice?
I practice primarily in a home studio behind our house in the Candler Park/Lake Claire area of Atlanta, Georgia. Our space can currently accomadate 1-4 people for sound healing sessions. For groups larger than 4 people, I have two local studios where I rent space. I can also travel to your home, studio, or business - contact me for details about either of these options.
